EU: EU malt industry now facing problems on several fronts - analysts

The EU malt industry, which has really fared well till now, is facing problems on several fronts, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in September.

Among the problems, the analysts cite difficult quality barley supplies, price and quality parameters for malt sales to brewers, both on new contracts and for barley covers against LTA’s and old fixed price sales. Also exports will not be as easy as in past years, because of new capacities all over the world, higher freight rates to Asia and a firm Euro vs. the U.S. Dollar.

The European brewing industry is only covered for a part of 2018, the analysts said.
